Glacier National Park: What to know before you go

Glacier Park Lodge

Glacier Park Lodge is located only 209 steps from East Glacier Park station, and the hotel offers golf cart transportation to the hotel should you require assistance. Additional amenities include free on-site parking, complimentary Wi-Fi, and onsite dining in the Great Northern Dining Room.

Dining

If you have breakfast and/or dinner included in your itinerary, present your voucher at check-in and the front desk will provide you with the meal coupons that can be used in the dining room. Hours of service for breakfast and dinner will be listed on your vouchers. If you did not purchase breakfast or dinner in advance, you can make reservations at the concierge desk at the hotel.

National Park Entrance Fees and Park Passes

On your vouchers, it will mention if the National Park fee is included in a guided tour. If it is not included, you will need to pay upon entrance to the park. If you are driving to a National Park on your own, you will also need to purchase this same park pass. For US citizens over the age of 62, we recommend you take advantage of the senior pass savings.

Two Medicine Valley Boat Cruise and Shuttle Transfers

Please ensure you check in at the concierge desk 15 minutes prior to the scheduled transfer time on your voucher. Once at the cruise port, present your cruise voucher and enjoy the incredible scenery on your 45-minute cruise! Afterwards, the transfer will bring you back to Glacier Park Lodge.

Glacier National Park Tours

Your guide will meet you in the main lobby of Glacier Park Lodge 15 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time on your voucher. Lunch is not included, however, there is a designated lunch stop where you will have the opportunity to purchase lunch. You can also bring a packed lunch and/or snacks with you. Tour itineraries may be modified due to weather, road, traffic and other unforeseen conditions.

Rental Cars

Once you receive your travel documents, please call (406) 892-0009 before your trip or at least 48 hours in advance to reconfirm your car rental pick-up time and provide driver's license information. This is required in advance to ensure the car is delivered directly to the Amtrak station for you. When you call, Dollar Car Rental will provide instructions for collecting your vehicle upon arrival if arriving by train in the evening, and for dropping off your vehicle for evening train departures.

Vehicle Registration & Park Pass

You are required to make a vehicle reservation for Glacier National Park in advance for a small reservation fee. In addition to a vehicle reservation, a park pass is required to enter the park. A vehicle reservation does not include a park pass, and the park pass does not serve as a vehicle reservation. Guests need 1 pass per vehicle.

Unfortunately, Amtrak Vacations is unable to make the reservation for you.

Make My Own Reservation

National Parks are very easy to navigate on your own, and most National Parks will provide a park map upon arrival at the gates. You can also find helpful information for planning your trip, including advice on any park road closures, and download offline maps through the National Parks app or from the National Parks Service website.

If your vacation includes a guided tour of Glacier National Park from the Apgar Visitors Center, you will need to drive to the Apgar Visitors Center. Please allow enough time to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled time on your vouchers, as roads can be busier during peak season. Lunch is not included, however, there is a designated lunch stop where you will have the opportunity to purchase lunch. You can also bring a packed lunch and/or snacks with you.
